The checkout rule
The calendar only offers dates you can deliver. But a date can stop being available while a customer is paying: another order fills the day, or the cutoff passes. The checkout rule checks the date again when the customer pays.
It’s under Settings → Checkout check, as Check delivery dates at checkout (recommended). It’s on by default and works on every Shopify plan, including Shop Pay, Apple Pay and Google Pay.
What it stops
At checkout, an order is stopped and the customer asked to choose again when:
- it has no delivery date;
- the date is no longer available: not a delivery day, blocked, full, too far ahead, or a day nothing you send can arrive on;
- today’s cutoff has passed since the customer chose the date, so it can’t be sent in time;
- a product in the cart has fewer units left on that date than the customer wants.
If an order still gets through
With the rule off, or when two customers pay for the last place at the same moment, an order can arrive for a date it shouldn’t have:
- if the date is past your cutoff, or a product is over its limit, Dalbie Dates keeps the customer’s date and flags the order;
- if the date has passed, isn’t a delivery day, or is blocked or full, it can’t be delivered as it is, so Dalbie Dates moves the order to the next day you can deliver and flags it.
See Flagged orders and changing dates.
If Dalbie Dates can’t be reached
If the calendar can’t load, for example during an outage on our side, customers see that delivery dates couldn’t be loaded and can still check out. The checkout rule lets those orders through without a date, and each one is flagged so you can give it a date. Your store keeps taking orders.
