Daily limits, product limits and availability windows

Daily order limit

Under Settings → Capacity, Maximum orders per delivery day is a store-wide cap across all products. Leave it blank for no limit. When a day reaches its limit it closes on your store straight away, and customers choose another day.

Home shows each of the next two weeks’ days against this limit, and marks days that are nearly full or full.

Product and variant limits

Under Products, add the products that run out first. Each variant gets a daily limit, counted in units:

  • Unlimited: no limit of its own; the store-wide limit still applies.
  • Limited: a maximum number of units per delivery day.
  • Blocked: can’t be delivered on any day, unless a date override allows it.

When a variant’s units for a day are used up, customers can’t choose that day for a cart containing it. If a customer tries to add more than are left, Shopify tells them how many remain.

The Starter plan includes limits on up to 10 products; Growth and Plus have no limit.

Date overrides and availability windows

On a product, Add a date override changes a variant’s limit between a start and an end date:

  • Blocked for this window, for example while a product is out of season.
  • Limited to a number of units per day, for example a lower limit over a holiday week.
  • Unlimited for this window.

To sell a product only for delivery inside set dates, such as a Christmas range, set its daily limit to Blocked, then add a date override for the window you sell it in, with a limit or unlimited. Customers can then only choose dates inside that window.

Date overrides are on the Growth and Plus plans.
